Slick Rock Canyon lies between Lake Canyon and Iceberg Canyon on the east side of the lake. It is named after the polished sandstone terrain that surrounds so much of Lake Powell. Like Lake and Iceberg canyons, Slick Rock had a large Anasazi population and ruins and petroglyphs were numerous here before the lake rose.
Gary Ladd surmises that the Anasazi sites in Slick Rock Canyon were spared the devastating flash floods which appear to have ripped down other nearby canyons from time to time, perhaps because it drains a smaller area. The canyon is about a mile in length, depending on lake levels, and offers some sand and talus campsites.
